Step 4: Seed-Lok® Firming Wheel (Optional)

When planting in dry conditions the "Seed-Lok®" firming wheel is an option worth considering. The Seed-Lok® firming wheel runs just behind the seedtube and is situated within the double disc openers. It is set to run at the bottom of the seed trench prior to closing the seed trench and it has two key functions:
It firms the seeds into the soil to give superb seed-to-soil contact and it firms the seeds at an even depth.
Benefit: In conditions where moisture is scarce, it helps ensure the moisture in the soil can be drawn to the seed to aid in germination.
Seed-Lok® is not recommended for working in wet or heavy soil conditions.
