Service Tip #4
To get the most accuracy with any Great Plains Drill, calibration is a must. Seed rate charts that are supplied with the unit or found on-line should be used as a starting point only! Follow the operator’s manual closely when performing the calibration. The time spent on this step can save valuable seed and time if the drill is not set properly before going to the field.

Service Tip #3
To set the depth on a drill or piece of tillage equipment, there is a stroke control valve used to hydraulically stop the field lift system at a consistent point. Set  the flow of the tractor remote valve for less than 8 gpm. Excessive flow can damage this valve and cause it to not function correctly or develop a leak. In most cases when the valve is leaking or damaged, you can purchase a replacement cartridge to rebuild it.

Service Tip #2
Mechanical jaw clutches like those used on the Min-Till Drills are a simple, positive means of engaging and disengaging seed drives. Grease them sparingly or use a graphite spray. Over greasing can draw in dirt and foreign material that will form a thick paste. This paste can then cause the clutches to stick together or not disengage. As the clutch tries to force itself apart, damage can occur to linkages, bearings and bearing mounts due to the excess side load. If a clutch is sticking or over greased, remove and disassemble the clutch and clean it thoroughly.

Service Tip #1:
DO NOT apply petroleum based products on any plastic components. The petroleum expands the plastic causing high torque loads on drives and can restrict pivot points.
