Great Plains products appeared several times in the March 2016 Cover Crops supplement in CPM magazine.  The Saxon drill stole the front cover.  The related inside story explains how Project Lamport trial site in Northants United Kingdom was challenged to control grassweeds through spring cropping and the use of cover crops on heavy wet soils.  Amazing results were found in the first two years utilizing Great Plains' zonal cultivation technique with the Spartan Air Drill and V300 Compact Drill.  Not only was spring wheat germination good, but because only 10-50mm strip of soil was disturbed blackgrass germination was low.

The next step was getting Great Plains' zonal cultivation technique of Turbo Coulter followed by double disc 00 Series Openers on a drill able to establish a crop in adverse conditions  And so the Saxon was born. The cultivation discs on the Great Plains Centurion drill were replaced with Turbo Coulters from the Spartan and now the new Saxon features Turbo Coulters, 00 Series Openers and in-between a full-width tire packer to spread weight on softer and wetter conditions.

Project leaders praise the Saxon's simple and accurate metering system, unique ease-of-use features and Great Plains support.  They also look forward to seeing what more they can acheive when fertilizer models across the full range of Centurion and Saxon models become available later this year.
